Final pay and PTO in Maine

Under Maine Revised Statutes Title 26 Section 626, final paycheck deadlines are strictly enforced: all final wages must be paid on or before the next regularly scheduled payday or within two weeks of separation, whichever occurs first, regardless of whether the employee quit or was discharged. Failure to pay wages on time constitutes a wage payment violation that can be filed with the Wage and Hour Division of the Maine Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Standards. Late wage payments can trigger administrative penalties, interest, and statutory liquidated damages of up to double the unpaid amount.
