PTO Payout Calculator is an independent, free tool built and maintained by The PTO Payout Research Team, independent tool maintainers. It helps you estimate the value of unused PTO and find sources for your state's payout rules.

Who runs it

We are The PTO Payout Research Team. We maintain the calculator and its source links. We do not claim professional certification or independent legal review. We are not lawyers or accountants, so nothing here is legal, tax, or financial advice — it's a well-sourced estimate to help you understand your situation before you talk to your employer or a professional.

How the data is researched

Tax figures come from official sources: IRS Publication 15 for the supplemental wage rate, the Social Security Administration for the wage base, and each state's labor department for payout rules. Every state page cites the specific statute it relies on. The exact formulas are documented on the methodology page.

How often it's updated

The methodology page records the federal assumptions and known limitations. State withholding estimates are not a substitute for a current payroll table. The state-law data review date is June 11, 2026, shown in the byline on calculator and guide bylines. If you spot something out of date or wrong, please let us know.

Privacy

Calculations run in your browser. Optional share links include an encoded copy of the inputs in the URL, which is sent to the host when opened. See our privacy policy before sharing sensitive figures.
